Application Engineer

Position Summary:    To provide the sales team with pre-sales technical and solution design support and to provide full post-sales Project Management. The main focus of this position will be to engage with our clients and our sales team on opportunities specifically related to Data Centre applications involving network/server enclosures and the proper application of “airflow management” methodologies, “cable management” best practices and appropriate “power management” strategies.

  1. Upon identification of a valid client project this position will take the lead in the solution design.
  2. Technical pre-sales activities such as customer product and concept presentations, conducting technical workshops, “proof of concept” development, writing specifications, ROI development.
  3. Support the sales team during engagements by providing solution advice tailored to meet customer requirements.
  4. Assist clients with advise on facilities infrastructure improvements related to TAB’s technical solution recommendations.
  5. Work closely with our manufacturer’s engineering application, product marketing and technical support teams to develop appropriate customer solutions.
  6. Professional Services (revenue generating): Conduct analytical customer site surveys and utilize specific software tools (CFD Modeling) to define current site status, articulate potential site improvements and develop potential site improvements using software reporting.
  7. Complete responsibility for Project Management of TAB’s deliverables and implementations at the client’s site, including delivery logistics, installation, site documentation, project deficiency identification, problem resolution and ultimately client satisfaction, all within the confines of an established project budget.
  8. Working with senior management, marketing and sales to develop plans to help grow revenue and profitability of TAB’s Technical Environment’s division. Specifically, the identification of market trends and subsequent opportunities relevant to TAB.
  9. Tracking of and reporting on pipeline activities.
  10. Seminar and industry speaking engagements as a “subject matter expert”. As well as trade show budgeting and coordination.




  • Education: University Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Data Centre Infrastructure Industry Experience:  3-5 years minimum – This may be a lot
  • Specific knowledge required: HVAC systems; Network infrastructure; Power distribution
  • Strong Computer Literacy including all Microsoft business applications and CAD systems
  • Previous experience with Data Centre design/build projects is desireable

Physical Demands:

Standing, Walking, Sitting, Keyboarding/Data/Typing, Reaching with Hands/Arms, Some heavy lifting and Mechanical work, Working with tools and instruments

Work Environment:

Office environment and customer facility construction sites. About 25% travel time across Canada and into the United States should be expected.

  • Strong “Team Working” skills – ability to work closely with clients, sales team members, vendors and outside infrastructure providers such as Architects, Consulting Engineering firms and General Contractors
  • Excellent fusion of technical and sales/marketing skills
  • A results driven individual with a sense of urgency

This is a Toronto based position with project and opportunity responsibilities across Canada.

Salary is commensurate with experience and a full company benefits package is available to the successful candidate. Annual vacation begins as three weeks.

Candidate must have own automobile suitable for business purposes and a valid Ontario driver’s licence.

Candidate must be a Canadian citizen with a valid passport and an ability to travel to the United Sates.
